8 escudos, full date 1714, oMJ, choice specimen from the 1715 fleet mounted in a heavy, elegant 18K yellow-gold bezel for necklace with two cabochon emeralds flanking the bale at top. The coin itself is wonderful (well-centered strike, full shield and cross, clear date and denomination, bold full oMJ, some legend, XF+ for wear), but the mounting is even more so, with shield-side out, four sturdy prongs in the corners, heavy gold-tube frame around the perimeter. A jewel in every way! With certificate.

8 escudos, (1715), oMJ, from the 1715 fleet, with 2003 Tampa sale photo-certificate. Bold oMJ and denomination, weak but nearly full shield and cross, AXF with flat spots, desirable auction provenance that stemmed from government seizure of the assets of a convicted drug dealer with ties to divers on the "Corrigans" site in the 1980s.

8 escudos, Philip V or Luis I, oMD (1724-1728), rare type. Small, thick, round planchet with full shield and cross, just a trace of the oMD (not 100% certain), typically cruder than the 1715-fleet coins before it (hence much cheaper, even though a LOT rarer), lightly polished VF.
